“The hardest war I ever had” This is what Jaba told us after the fight with David. David was selected by the red team to compete with Jaba for the next elimination fight. I know that this fight is going to be the best fight and memorable match. This because even though I never had chance to see both of them but from roughly estimate their skill, I could say that they probably the best fighters among the rest in their teams.

David actuall did very well during the first two rounds but unfortunately he start to become losing his power and got injury from Jaba’s elbow. But that’s not the big thing for him, the critical points for David’s lost is may be he was thrown down to the floor so many time, almost every time he had clinching.

Even though many people think that this fight is very close and either of them could be the winner. But in Muay Thai, what we call “Roop Muay” which means maintaining the aspect of being ready to fight and not losing power are also important and the fighter who fail to perform this will finally lose the score, and this was unfortunately happened to David.

However, this was a really great fight and I could say that it will be difficult to see this kind of fight again in the Contender Asia, apart from if they were perform by Thai fighters.

I actually got the name of the gym by visiting some video in Youtube and find this name appear in the video. The gym located in NY, USA where is the country that Muay Thai is so popular. Rather than offering courses that only focus in Muay Thai, the gym also offers other types of fitness activities such as Yoga, Kali and so on.

However, their Muay Thai class seems to work when I had a look at the list of instructor who had very long experience in Muay Thai fight. The gym also offer kid’s class. Overall appearance of the gym’s facilities looks very good. Apart form Muay Thai class, the gym also constantly organise Muay Thai matches which representing there are also opportunities for students to perform a real professional fights.

It’s very difficult for promoters to offer “authentic” Muay Thai outside of Thailand, particularly in the United States. Most jurisdictions heavily regulate their combat sports, and there is a constant uphill battle with the local boxing and athletic commissions when it comes to the use of knees and elbows in the ring.

The state of Virginia, for example, has taken a rather progressive approach, in not only allowing full-rule Muay Thai matches to occur, but actually embracing the rules. They have set up training workshops with a leading local sanctioning organization for training on how to properly officiate these fights and keep them safe for the participants.

In order to ensure the states continued support, promoters and sanctioning bodies have found the need to adopt a few practices that aren’t quite “full Thai rules”. Notably, amateurs wearing safety gear in the ring. Headgear, shinguards, and elbow pads are the norm. Some targets which are considered “fair game” in authentic Muay Thai are not permitted, such as the spine and back of the head. Also, rules regarding holding and hitting tend to be modified as well.

After the blue tem lost its member, Alan, it’s seems that everything for them completely worse. No more motivation left for them as when the lost of Alan make thing clear that they are losing more member than the red team. David also could do nothing more as because he seems to be very lack of motivation for him self too. However, I have to admit that Alan is too weak and he is noboday for Soran to fight. Just like Yodsaenklai said that they are too far away (too different in terms of fighting skills). However, when the next challenge comes, the game, again looks like the organiser want to make more challenge again about their power and teamwork. But this time, it is very obvious that the blue team just seems completely forget about the fail that has passed on to them and start to fight again. The teamwork of the blue team is mush better and also almost win the game when David drags the cart and runs ahead to John, but finally, David’s and his team lost again and this makes him and blue team feel even worst.

ANTHONY “THE ASSASSIN” NJOKUANI (mma & muay thai promo)

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

I don’t know Anthony before, I actually don’t even ever heard about him. But after I watch his video review, I thought that how can I missed such a great fighter. The name “The Assassin” is deserved to him. I think that he is very skillful in both Muay Thai and MMA. What I can see about his capability is full of power and speed. Muay Thai training kicks and powerful punches are the most unique characteristics of Anthony. I also see that when he use Muay Thai skills to overcome his opponents in MMA, this demonstrate very good implementation of Muay Thai arts to other kind of martial arts.

Waiting for the Bell

Friday, March 28th, 2008

During many fights, when there are 10 seconds left in a round, the timekeeper signals by knocking the hammer on the table so that everyone is aware that the bell is about to ring. Depending on the fighter, there are a variety of actions that one may take….

Some fighters like to “turn it on”, and finish the round very strongly to make an impression on the judges, either to “seal” the round, or to “steal” it. When they are trying to “seal” the round, they are often already in the lead and merely want to finish the round with an exclamation point, so as to leave no doubt. If they are trying to “steal” it, its because the round is close or they are behind, and hope that this final flurry of activity will sway the judges because the officials often place more importance on what they witnessed in the closing minute of the round.

However, some fighters are content to just finish the round. Sometimes the fighter is comfortable with where they perceive they stand on the scorecards. Sometimes a fighter is winded or hurt and merely wants to survive until the bell. Whatever the case, one should never relax their guard until the bell has rung and the referee has waved both fighters to their respective corners.

In this particular instance, when that 10-second warning sounded, and if the one of the fighters is relaxed, assuming they could just hold on until the bell. This was a critical mistake as his opponent exploded, they may get attacked and never saw coming for a knockout with 1 second left in the round.

50 kicks in 30 seconds Muay Thai

Friday, March 28th, 2008

This is very short video but really interesting. 50 kicks in 30 seconds may not really surprise me because this can be found in general and even more fighter can do more than that. But what we learn form this video is that this kind of practice is not a real indicator of he will does good on the ring. This because there is absolution no chance to take such as massive kicks and also it’s just a waste of power. But double kicks can be seen from all of the fights which I think there is no further benefit to take many kicks in the real fight. But this is a kind of training strategy to enhance fighter’s speed and accuracy of the kicks.

The Contender Asia Episode 5 : Soran and Alan

This fight is really interesting. Even though Alan seems to lost all the advantage since before the fight start and I can easily predict the result of the fight. However, he surprised me by the first two rounds when he could take the fight under control. Grab leg was very effective and Soran just find very difficult to attack, but unfortunately, I can see Alan’s attacks have absolutely no power. The most important thing is that, I believe that Soran knew this as well, and this makes him not too frightened by Alan.

When the third round start, Alan looks very tired and Soran grab opportunities immediately by attacks as many as he can. However, I could see that the overall perspective still looks good for Alan as he still be able to attacks by knee kicks and clinch, but he was too weak too fight. As a result he finally gone with the wound on his face, made by Soran’s elbows.

The fight does not have to end like this if Alan tried not to be too close to Soran and then receives name of elbows attack. If he thinks about using defensive strategies, then he may not lost KO. But unfortunately, he is too weak, which may be due to his stomach disease, then everything seem to be too late for Alan.

At the blue corner, his captain, David and Thai coach are discussing about whether they should tell Alan surrender, due to the wound is getting bigger. But this is not a key decision making that made by himself. No response, no intention to continue the fight and want to finish, that’s what I can see from his eyes.

Muay Thai Stadium : Siam Om Noi Stadium

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Apart from two major stadiums that we are already know. Siam Om Noi is the new and also the third wel known one for Muay Thai fans. Many of Muay Thai weekly tournaments, organised by famous promoters also held at this stadium. The most famous one is One Song Chai Match, which also the most favourite tournament among Muay Thai fans. Siam Om Noi is normally only the stadium that use for tournament that will be broadcast to TV channel rather than letting Muay Thai fans to buy tickets to see the fight. However, the stadium still has small capacity for fans but not a core service that it provides.
