Tony Jaa’s Muay Thai

Monday, May 12th, 2008

It is quite strange that there are so many people out there criticise, wonder and talk about Tony Jaa and his Muay Thai martial art skills, but I never mentioned about this into the blog. However, in my perspective, there was not much to talk about him if we really to mention about his skills of martial arts. Because all poeple know that he is excellent. But there is something to bare in mind that it is something related to the “acting” skills which sometimes it looks quite a bit different in terms of sport Muay Thai. So then if you watch any of Tony’s movie, it is ok only for Muay Thai arts appreciation, but the real fight is another topic.

Peter Aerts HL

Peter Aerts HL
This video reminds me to one of the most favourite fighter, Buakhaw. It is not because the big weight that they are similar but the power of the attack which they both are ready to knock the opponent down in just one effective single shot. Peter’s KO shots were so powerful, especially the high head kicks which seems no one survive after got the attacks. I noticed that Peter is a very clever fighter, the is because he can see the opportunity to use his favourite attacks when the opponent is losing control of defense and finish the fight very quickly. So this is a good practice for all of you that power is not only the key of success but also to technique as well.

Muay Thai Jumping Knee How To Guide

Friday, April 4th, 2008

This is another How to from Greg Evans

Muay Thai Jumping Knee How To Guide
Learn how to do a flying knee to the head and knock people out.
For more Muay Thai instructional videos, check out http://www.8limbskickboxing.com - The only Muay Thai Association designed specifically for mixed martial arts.

This is a very good example demonstration video. The instructor was very elaborate on his instructions so it is very good for learners to learn from. Actually flying knee kick, in my perspective, is not something that very easy to practice and also the chance to use is much more harder. This is because in modern Muay Thai, fighter were taught to use both attacking and defensive technique at the same time and flying knee kick even though it is a very powerful attack but it also has weakness points: easy to escape and when fighter lands, he is very open to get immediate strike.

How To Master The Thai Kick In Detail

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Here is a How to Guide from Greg Evans. He is the creator of this VDO

How To Master The Thai Kick In Detail
The Thai kick broken down in extreme detail. Learn how to master this kick training at home without a partner.
For more Muay Thai instructional videos check out http://www.8limbskickboxing.com - the only Muay Thai association for mixed martial arts.

As the name of the video. It is very detailed instruction of basic Muay thai kick. I think many of beginners may have problems that their teacher did not give very detail like this when they taking lesson so it is good to learn from this video. Even though there are many formats of Muay Thai kicks and there are also many of correct ways to practice, but this video is a good among them as the instructor also mentioned about the importance of moving hips and using the whole shin to kick as a key element to make your Muay Thai kick powerful.

The Best of Muay Thai Promoter: Songchai Ratanasuban

Wednesday, March 12th, 2008

songchai.jpg

I remember that I used to mention about him in one of the article in this blog that he is the most famous and successful Muay Thai promoter in Thailand. If you are the real Muay Thai fan, you might have heard his name. so today I will introduce a little bit more about him. Songchai may not a famous world class promoter but I would say that Muay Thai industry can not go as far ads it appears today without his contribution. The One Songchai Muay Thai tournament is something that Muay Thai fans are familiar with. Songchai is not only the person who contributes himself to Muay Thai, but the whole of his family members at the moment are also involve in Muay Thai promotion. His daughter is promoting lady Muay Thai and she is the only one female Muay thai promoter in Thailand, meanwhile his son also helping him on Muay Thai promotional activities overseas. I would like to mention about him in this section even though he is not a fighter but considered as the most important for Muay Thai business in Thailand.

S1 Muay Thai World Championship FINAL - THAILAND vs BELARUS

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Hello everyone, I am back from Greece. The event was good fun. I had a good chance to take the VDO very close to the ring. Thank you very much to Khun Pariyakorn Ratanasuban and her family for a great opportunity.

The belows are the video clips of the final fight: THAILAND vs BELARUS. A complete event report will be posted soon.

S1 Muay Thai World Championship 2008 FINAL
THAILAND vs BELARUS

March 7th, 2008
Loutraki, Greece

Round 1

Round 2

Round 3

Even though this fight, Nopparat was the winner, but it might not an easy job for him during round 1 and 2 I could not see any different between both fighters. This is just because the fighter from Belarus (blue corner) had very best of his skill on footwork and punching so he could use his speed to fight with Nopparat. I can also occasionally see the blue corner’s clinching skill and he did very well. Nopparat, how ever seemed to be very relax of this fight and I think that the fight was very friendly too. The impressive moment for myself to this match when they both fighters clinching and fall off the ring, and when they climb up and came back to the ring and hug each other. May be this tournament gained the most benefit of making people enjoyable and ware of the art of Muay Thai

Exclusive Interview with Zach from the Contender Asia

Thursday, February 28th, 2008

Hi everyone, I had a chance to interview Zach regarding his career and the Contender Asia. Here is some bit from the inside.

Zig Zach The contender asia

Oak: How are you doing, bro?
Zach: Am doing great. Been very busy since The Contender Asia.

Oak: How long have you been doing Muay Thai?
Zach: I started when I was 17 and did it for fun and needed to lose weight!! Was abit of a chubby kid…90kg over!! All thanks to moms cooking!!

Oak: What fighters did you look up to as you were growing up?
Zach: I remember reading about Diesel Noi and how he had amazing knee strikes. How he was undefeated for so long. I only ever saw one of his fights on the internet and I was impressed at how he used his height to is advantage with his knees!!

Oak: What brought you into the show?
Zach: Well I’ve been fighting regularly for WMC and Stephan Fox said to me that he would like to give me a chance to go on the show. I was reluctant at first, because I knew some of the guys in there had alot more experience than me!! I talked to alot of friends and family and they supported me and said that I would be stupid to not take the offer. Im glad they all believed in me.

Oak: How do you feel about the show?
Zach: Well filming it and watching it is 2 totally different things! We never imagined what it could be like….and we were really sooo amazed by it when we saw the first episode. And the episodes just keep getting better and better. I think the show will do wonders for the sport. Muay Thai is so much more than just fighting.

Oak: Can you tell me about the house and your team mates?
Zach: The Loft was very cool. We didn’t know what to expect at first but I think when we saw it for the first time we were all pretty impressed!!! The Tiger Kings are all a bunch of really down to earth gentlemen. We all just got along very well. And even now after the show alot of us still keep in close contact.

Oak: How is about the other team?
Zach: Well blue team were loud and yeah they were also pretty cocky sometimes. But we took it in our stride and laughed it off. Don’t think it wouldn have made very interesting TV if all of us were just all so nice and sat around reading. hahah Yukay and Sean were my favourite to hang out with in the blue team.

Oak: Can you tell me about the accident in Episode 1?
Zach: Well the whole challenge on Episode 1 was just a disaster. When they told us what it was someone said,”If one falls, both falls coz we’re tied to each other an then we’re screwed.”…And guess who fell!!??…To make it worse it had rained all day,the lanes were narrow and I think it just wasn’t my day. We werent pleased about it. but we still had to do it. Me and Soren did a test run and it was ok. I remember running and Soren was behind me and I said “Keep Up” and next thing I know,I was on the floor Soren landed hard on my right shoulder and I just heard a loud riping sound on my shoulder and I knew I dislocated it. It really just was a bad way to start things off in the comp. The Blue team and Red team were very angry at the challenge and the producers apologized to us after saying that the challenges to come will be less dangerous as they don’t wanna risk anymore injuries from challenges.

Oak: What if you were picked you in Episode 1?
Zach: Well nothing you can do…Just gotta fight and do your best!!

Oak: What do you think about Yodseanklai?
Zach: Yodsaenklai is a MACHINE…..his kicks are just amazing. I mean the way he balances and Im amazed at how hard it is for people to read when he’s going to kick coz he’s so natural at it. Apart from fighting he is also a very funny guy. He really did put an effort to learn english while he was there. Ohh and one more thing…Yodsaenklai can EAT!!!!!!!!

Oak: What do you think about JWP as the team leader?
Zach: JWP is an awesome team leader. He knew what to say and when to say things to motivate us. He was just a really nice guy in general. Im very happy that he picked me into his team. Was a real honour to have been part of the Tiger Kings wth JWP as my leader.

Oak: Who are the toughest guys in this show?
Zach: I’d say JWP,Yodsaenklai,Jabba,Bruce. Are prolly the toughest in the house!!!!

Oak: Ok, that’s all. Thank you for your time, Zach. Good luck in the future!!
Zach: Thanks bro!!!
