Muay thai: Munil Adriano vs Henrique Rocha

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

Not many occasion that I can see the fighter KO by clinching and knee kick. Especially the guy in blue shorts in this video seems to enjoy attacking his opponent but unfortunately he was “accidentally” attacked at the stomach. I would say there was no one who gained distinctive advantage even though seemed that blue corner perform massive attacks but his attacks were not make any trouble to his opponent. What I also like this video is about the perfect clinching and knee kick. It is rare to see the fight that organised overseas that include the rule of knee kick and clinch. This is a very good lesson for learners not to forget the defensive approach when attacking.

Muay Thai: Kansak vs Raul Llopis

Saturday, March 8th, 2008

If we just overview this fight, it seemed that there was nothing interesting because of both of fighters did not demonstrate distinct advantage or strategy. It looks like Kansak had a lot advantage over Raul, but what I could see is that Kansak might be under estimate of his opponent. Hands down most of the time and no constant footwork is not what I expect to see in Muay Thai, especially the champion title like Kansak. This kind of situation also happen very often with many of fighters in Thailand, but this may be due to the strategy that the fighter decide to use, not the real fault at all.

Duke Roufus, Muay Thai, Full Contact Kickboxing MMA Footwork

Again, I really love to review this series because there are varieties of lessons, including attacking and defending. I personally love the fighters who keen to perform excellent defending and use just few powerful attacks to get the opponent down. The instructor of this video explained very clear together with the perfect demonstration. In fact, the defense from spin back is very difficult, not only in terms of technique, but in terms of you will never know when your opponent will use spin back attack. If a fighter use very fast approach, you will never have even a chance to think about defensive. However, I think the video demonstrated the best approach to defense.

Contender Asia Muay Thai 4 : Yodsaenklai VS Bruce

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

This fight is very interesting. But not because it is from the most popular Muay Thai reality show “Contender Asia” but what interest me is that Yodsaenklai seemed to get much more advantage over Bruce in terms of both power and strategy but he looked not to use maximum of his advantage and potential to give KO to Bruce. Even though he showed the great power of punches and kicks but I strongly believe that he could do better than that. Bruce also had very good skills of Muay Thaibut still not enough to fight with Yodsaenklai, especially for his defensive technique to block the kicks, as his friend said that he should not use arms to block kicks and use leg instead. However, it was a good fight to learn.

MUAY THAI BORAN

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

This video is really interesting because it’s about Muay Boran competition (not sure if it is the real competition or just somekind of training, but there was a referee there so I think that would be a competition). What impress me the most is that this fight was not organised in Thailand, which surprise to me that I even can see this kind of fight only for performance, not real competition. Al though I do not have much knowledge of the correct form of Muay Boran, but I can say that fighting style of they both may not exactly be the pure and original Muay Boran. They recalled me to think about “Muay Kad Chuek” which is fighters wear no gloves but use only string to cover the fists and the rule is similar to Muay Thai. But I have to say that both of fighters

Muay Thai training – kicks

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

There are so many video lessons that teach about Muay Thai kicks, but this video really interest to me because it teaches me against to my perception. I may be wrong because I am not a fighter, but what I was told is that Muay Thai kick will be powerful and reduce chance of injury if using shin to kick not the lower shin that mentioned in the video. The instructor also mentioned that to make your kick safe and avoid injury, fighter should use lower shin to kick not upper chin, which in my very common understanding is that lower shin, which connected to the feet is the joint where is more sensitive. So, please correct me if I am wrong about reviewing this video, may be some other types of Muay Thai kicks that also use lower shin to kick.

Ramon Dekkers vs Den Muangsurin Muay Thai

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Part1

Part2

Part3

Ramon Dekker is one of the Muay Thai monster in history. Even though he was gaining a lot of reputation when I was really young but all of Muay Thai fans in Thailand at that time were very impress with his skills and ability to beat many of good Thai fighters. The video I picked up to review this time is just one example of his very good fighting skill. I am not saying that Den Muang Suring was not good, he was excellent for this fight but Ramon seemed not afraid and demonstrated very good fighting skills. What I can see from this fight is may be the lack of using clinching and knee kicks. Den’s kicks looked almost useless to Ramon but I just wonder why he did not change the strategy. However, due to Ramon has very powerful punches may be this was the main reason for Den did not much come closer to use clinch.

Mixed Martial Arts & Muay Thai Kickboxing Techniques : How to Perform the Superman Punch in Kickboxing

Saturday, March 1st, 2008

This video immediately draw my attention because of the title “Superman Punch” then I wonder what the superman punch will look like. What I can see that the technique mainly about to gain more power from the jump before taking a punch and the figure like when superman flying in the air. This technique may not be the original art of Muay Thai punch but is it a very good way to increase the power of your punch, so it may worth to practice for Muay Thai fight. In fact, there are some Muay Thai advance technique that require jumping and attack such as jumping elbow attack, but the fighter have to be very careful when using any kind of jumping attacks as you will also losing the control of defense!! It is easily be striked back by the opponent immediately and you have to be confident and expect the great result of jumping attacks.

High Head Kick: Only one is enough

What make the match’s result different is KO, it turns the fighter who obviously gain advantage over the other to become a loser in just one shot. Even though I could not see KO that was made by effective deadly Mae Mai Muay Thai very often, even in Thailand, but sometimes I can see some common advanced technique like high head kick was used. This time, again, I can see from this video. I strongly believe that the guy in red corner will finally be the winner when the fight ends, but when he losing control when clinching and gave opportunity for the blue to kick on his head, that’s the end of the fight. Sometimes, it is really difficult to defense yourself when clinching because you will have to concentrate on arm locking and knee kick. The guy in red corner was attack at the moment when he tried to push himself away from clinch without carefully guard his head.
