ANTHONY “THE ASSASSIN” NJOKUANI (mma & muay thai promo)

March 30th, 2008

I don’t know Anthony before, I actually don’t even ever heard about him. But after I watch his video review, I thought that how can I missed such a great fighter. The name “The Assassin” is deserved to him. I think that he is very skillful in both Muay Thai and MMA. What I can see about his capability is full of power and speed. Muay Thai training kicks and powerful punches are the most unique characteristics of Anthony. I also see that when he use Muay Thai skills to overcome his opponents in MMA, this demonstrate very good implementation of Muay Thai arts to other kind of martial arts.

Waiting for the Bell

March 28th, 2008

bell.gif

During many fights, when there are 10 seconds left in a round, the timekeeper signals by knocking the hammer on the table so that everyone is aware that the bell is about to ring. Depending on the fighter, there are a variety of actions that one may take….

Some fighters like to “turn it on”, and finish the round very strongly to make an impression on the judges, either to “seal” the round, or to “steal” it. When they are trying to “seal” the round, they are often already in the lead and merely want to finish the round with an exclamation point, so as to leave no doubt. If they are trying to “steal” it, its because the round is close or they are behind, and hope that this final flurry of activity will sway the judges because the officials often place more importance on what they witnessed in the closing minute of the round.

However, some fighters are content to just finish the round. Sometimes the fighter is comfortable with where they perceive they stand on the scorecards. Sometimes a fighter is winded or hurt and merely wants to survive until the bell. Whatever the case, one should never relax their guard until the bell has rung and the referee has waved both fighters to their respective corners.

In this particular instance, when that 10-second warning sounded, and if the one of the fighters is relaxed, assuming they could just hold on until the bell. This was a critical mistake as his opponent exploded, they may get attacked and never saw coming for a knockout with 1 second left in the round.

50 kicks in 30 seconds Muay Thai

March 28th, 2008

This is very short video but really interesting. 50 kicks in 30 seconds may not really surprise me because this can be found in general and even more fighter can do more than that. But what we learn form this video is that this kind of practice is not a real indicator of he will does good on the ring. This because there is absolution no chance to take such as massive kicks and also it’s just a waste of power. But double kicks can be seen from all of the fights which I think there is no further benefit to take many kicks in the real fight. But this is a kind of training strategy to enhance fighter’s speed and accuracy of the kicks.

The Contender Asia Episode 5 : Soran and Alan

March 27th, 2008

This fight is really interesting. Even though Alan seems to lost all the advantage since before the fight start and I can easily predict the result of the fight. However, he surprised me by the first two rounds when he could take the fight under control. Grab leg was very effective and Soran just find very difficult to attack, but unfortunately, I can see Alan’s attacks have absolutely no power. The most important thing is that, I believe that Soran knew this as well, and this makes him not too frightened by Alan.

When the third round start, Alan looks very tired and Soran grab opportunities immediately by attacks as many as he can. However, I could see that the overall perspective still looks good for Alan as he still be able to attacks by knee kicks and clinch, but he was too weak too fight. As a result he finally gone with the wound on his face, made by Soran’s elbows.

The fight does not have to end like this if Alan tried not to be too close to Soran and then receives name of elbows attack. If he thinks about using defensive strategies, then he may not lost KO. But unfortunately, he is too weak, which may be due to his stomach disease, then everything seem to be too late for Alan.

At the blue corner, his captain, David and Thai coach are discussing about whether they should tell Alan surrender, due to the wound is getting bigger. But this is not a key decision making that made by himself. No response, no intention to continue the fight and want to finish, that’s what I can see from his eyes.

Muay Thai Stadium : Siam Om Noi Stadium

March 27th, 2008

Apart from two major stadiums that we are already know. Siam Om Noi is the new and also the third wel known one for Muay Thai fans. Many of Muay Thai weekly tournaments, organised by famous promoters also held at this stadium. The most famous one is One Song Chai Match, which also the most favourite tournament among Muay Thai fans. Siam Om Noi is normally only the stadium that use for tournament that will be broadcast to TV channel rather than letting Muay Thai fans to buy tickets to see the fight. However, the stadium still has small capacity for fans but not a core service that it provides.

Top 10 K1 KNOCK-OUTs 2007 (MMA, Kick Boxing, Muaythai, UFC)

March 27th, 2008

Now let’s change to review the KO shorts from K-1, which I think I never pick up something like this before. Even though these KOs looks ordinary which we can see from other boxing, and they are not strictly for Muay Thai, but I still love to see all of the 10 shorts. In fact, there are two KOs by round house kicks (high head kick) which is the art of Muay Thai and they both was done very perfectly. What interesting is about the KO 5th, which the fighter took his opponent down by round house kick and he was taken down by the same technique in KO 6th !!

The Contender Asia Episode 5: The Tug of War

March 25th, 2008

The rule of the challenge of the 5th episode is really simple and I think it is purely judge for the winner by only using power alone. This game is call in Thailand “Chak Yer”. But the different is that there was a really big truck in the middle of the rope. So this task have become more challenge and stressful. When the red team won, I just feel that the reward for all member of the team are really not valuable, even though they worth 500 USD each. I could see somebody just feel disappoint when they know that they get “virtual” money to buy thing on eBay. The prices are not even close to the event and Muay Thai, they might need something more relaxing and enjoying activities.

However, the price is the price, they have to take it and shop online for eBay items. Now finally Alan, one of my favourite fighter was picked up for the fight by Soran, who seems to be very keen and expert in Muay Thai. I am still do not know what the result of the fight at this point but what I certainly know that it is going to be a good and exciting fight.

In order to congratulate to the new captain of the blue team of the Contender Asia, David Pacquette, now let’s know more about him. David brings a lot of my attention because he looks strong and tough as well as very understanding person. When searching around, I find that David is not just an ordinary Muay Thai fighter, he is also a qualified teacher too. David have gone through almost all types of martial arts and all types of sport such as running, swimming. Apart from that he is also champion of many tiles both in the UK and internationally. He is the person who play major role and influence all of his team members in the Contender Asia, so let’s look further how well he will do in this tournament.

How To Wrap Hands For Muay Thai Boxing

March 25th, 2008

There is nothing much to talk about this video. I have never seen any video that is about Muay That hand wrapping on Youtube, so this one may be the only one. However, I personally have no experience about doing Muay thai hand wrapping, apart from reading in a book, so it is really hard to make suggestions on this video, but I think it looks good and worth a try. In fact, what happened here in Thailand for a professional fighter, pattern of hand wrapping is not restrict to only one or two variations but really depends on requirement of each fighter who prefer method and style of hand wrap to make him most comfortable and safe.
