Muay Thai defense offense drills

March 24th, 2008

This video may not look so exciting like other ones that I used to pick up, and even though it’s look simple training approach but I think this is the one that many of you, as a learner should follow. Sometimes training and sparing don’t have to be intensive. There is also possible to get a relaxing lesion just to practice the approach without using massive power. I like this video because the padwork was so relax and they both seem very enjoy the training.

Never Surrender, Never Give Up

Picture of Master K

Story told by Kru Brooks Miller

What brought this to mind is from my longtime Muay Thai coach, Por.Kru Kumron Vaitayanon (a.k.a. “Master K”) teamed up with Kaensak Sor.Pleonchit for a day-long seminar in Sewell, NJ. Kaensak Sor.Pleonchit was one of Thailand’s best. He fought at a time where the MuayThai in Thailand was unsurpassed, where the fighters were unquestionably the best. The 1990’s will likely be remembered as one of Thailand’s “Golden Era’s” of Sport MuayThai, and Kaensak was on top! Amongst his many titles, honors, and accolades, Kaensak was a 2 time Lumpinee Stadium Champion, and was named “Fighter of the Year” in Thailand for 2 years in a row!

Kaensak was born in 1971, about a year and a half after myself. He is in AMAZING shape! You would never know that he is almost 40 years old. His movement is still fast and fluid.

Then there is Master K. Master K will be turning 70 years old later this year. Master K is a living testament to the benefits of Muay Thai training! We often hear of the dangers of Muay Thai, of the adverse effects on ones health. MuayThai is a very difficult sport, yet here is Master K running literal circles around fighters and students who aren’t even half his age! Master K even got in the ring and mixed it up a bit with Kaensak. It was amazing to see a 70 year old man mix it up with a fighter who is half his age and hold his own.

Master K retired from the MuayThai ring before Kaensak was even born, but commented how at 70 years old, he was learning new things from Kaensak. You could also see how much respect Kaensak had for Master K. Both men are prime examples of how dedicating oneself to training and learning helps maintain your quality of life.

As there are many of good quality Muay Thai gym located inn Phuket, then it makes this province become famous not for its tourist destinations but also from good Muay Thai gym. Phuket Muay Thai Gym has also been mentioned in many of international Muay Thai forums. What I like the most about this cam is they have training programmes for women, which many other gyms do not have, and after reviewing the programmes, I found that it is quite interesting programmes, so any of you who is woman and looking for intensive Muay Thai class, join the camp may be good option.

Sanda vs Muay Thai

March 23rd, 2008

I don’t really have no idea what is Sanda, may be it’s a Chinese martial art. So I choose this video because I really want to know what it is and how it works when fight against Muay Thai. I also don’t know who is the fighter for Muay Thai and also the language of the video is Chinese. However, what surprise me the most is that Sanda looks very much similar to Muay Thai and very effective in front kick and throw. I could not see Muay Thai fighter gain any advantage meanwhile the Sanda fighter’s incredible speed make Thai fighter become losing control. The front kicks and throws did work very well and the Sanda fighter deserve the win if this fight.

The Contender Asia Episode 5 : The New Captain

But before I will talk about the new captain of the blue team. There is something to talk about the training. I am not really sure that what I can see on the series is the whole training. I think that the training is too lose for all fighters, compare to their potential. They should get tougher and more intensive training programme. However, this is not just for the commercial purpose, but if the organiser would like to success in business as well as success in promoting Muay Thai, they should arrange some kind of intensive training programmes that similar to what’s being done in Thailand, then the audience should know what the professional training in Thailand look like. However, the objective of this series may be different, so we have nothing to do with it.

Now let’s go further to the game. The atmosphere between teams going on well, but the red team looks a bit better when they have two consecutive wins. However, for the blue team, we got a surprise that one member of them is not well and has a problem with his intestine. But Alan still be good and full of intention to fight. The new captain of the bule team is David, whom I can see his shining since fight between John and Rafik. He was the one who gave support to both Rafik and Bruce. He is strong and tough so it is no doubt he deserve to be the new captain.

www.europeanmuaythai.org

I know that Muay Thai is very famous among all European people but I never thought that there will be an organisation acting like a professional body for Muay Thai in Europe. What I like the most about this website is the document on rules of Muay Thai which I have never seen anywhere else. The document was translated in English and this is a kind of thing that I am looking for a long time. So if you are interested in reading all the official rules of Muay Thai, just visit the website and gain the knowledge. There may be few details about event and news about what’s going on about Muay Thai in Europe, but it’s still worth visiting.

Two Muay Thai legends: Jongsanan vs Namkhabuan

March 22nd, 2008

Part 1

Part 2

I am not really sure whether I used to see this match, because these two Muay Thai geniuses was shining when I was really young, maybe before I was seriously interested in Muay Thai. So when I see this video on Youtube, I am not reluctant to pick them and share with you. There is nothing much to talk about what they have done during the match, because you can see for yourself and you have to agree with me that they both were very excellent. However, I would like to say that you may not see some kind of attacks that we often see at present time. Yes, I am talking about clinching. If you look carefully, you will notice that they both do clinching not often, which means in the past, excellent fighters usually fight but not try to use more power than intelligence, and that’s why we call them Muay Thai legend.

The Contender Asia Episode 4: The Great Bruce, The great spirit of the fighter.

March 21st, 2008

Picture from contenderasia.com

Now the time for Thai fighter comes again. I can realise in the early stage before the fight that Yod Saenklai will definitely win, but I also agree with Naruepon’s comments towards his friend’s decision why he choose to fight with Bruce, only Yod Saenklai knows.

Bruce seemed to realise about the different between his ability and Yod Saenklai’s. But this video make me very appreciate him for his great spirit to try the best as a fighter and he must do the best to win the fight, no matter what the result of the fight will be.

When the fight began. It was no surprise for both team’s member that they can see Bruce was attacked most of the time. Bruce start to lost power sing the middle of the third round and some of his friend knew that he turned to survival mode (no ability to attack, just try the best to keep standing on the ring). But Bruce shoed that what his friend thought was a really misunderstood. During the fourth round, Bruce did very well by attacking Yod Saenklai many times and I could have seen and really appreciate his afford that he never give up.

When the fight finished, I think this is a highlight of the scene when Bruce “Wai” Yod Saenklai on the ring to pay the great respect to his opponent and I would say that Bruce is the “winning loser” of this tournament.

It is make me really surprise to me when I was looking around for Mauy Thai site sor review, as I have never interested in reviewing any kind of Muay Thai directory and also I think that it never exist. When searching for Muay Thai site, it is very rare case to pop up for very comprehensive information about Mauy Thai rather than many of websites of Muay Thai gyms. This website however, gather all Muay Thai related websites into one place when you will be very convenient to search by do not have to spend too much time with search engines which massive result of Muay Thai gyms, and I also recommend you to bookmark this site.

MUAY THAI in red VS BURMA in blue ROUND 3 KO

March 21st, 2008

I love to review this kind of fight because it will be organised only in special occasion such as important holiday in Thailand or usually for the friendly match between Thailand and Burma. I love it because it has free style of fighting and it represents more aspect of pure martial art than sport martial art. This usually called Muay Kad Chuek which now I believe that it could be seen in Thailand for formal rule of Muay Thai. This match ended at 3rd round when the fighter from Burma was attacked heavily at the chin during he gain a lot of advantage to the Thai fighter, but unfortunately he lose the effective of defense then lost KO.
